On April 8th I had a few hours to kill in the early afternoon. What better way to spend it than searching for reptiles! First I decided to visit a small heath area with sand lizards (Lacerta agilis). A short search resulted in three lizards basking in the sun! On the photo you really see how the lizard flattens itself to increase exposure to the sun.
After that I took a detour towards my house and visited a grass snake (Natrix natrix) population on the way. A quick half hour search resulted in 15 (!) snakes, of which 4 mating balls, and several others mating. If you look carefully at the photos you can see a female grass snake, with behind her 2 smaller males. All in all not a bad day and we can say that spring is finally here!
